On the 21st of February 2023, we (Nurul and Ayu) attended GovInsider Live Malaysia, which took place at Le Meridien Hotel, Putrajaya. It was a great experience for us to learn and enhance ourselves to get to know other people in multiple industries. Stepping up our game by networking with other representatives from various companies opened our eyes to a wider perspective outside our usual work. This event consists of a few discussion sessions with government and industry leaders. This event is only for Government and public sector agencies (federal and state) and statutory Board attendees to share their insights and experiences on various topics related to Government, technology, and Innovation. The conference is organized by GovInsider, a media company that covers government innovation and technology in Asia Pacific. The event sponsorship includes VMware, ManageEngine, and Dynatrace.
This event aims to discuss innovations shaping the Government from within and without. GovInsider Live – Malaysia gathers 200 public sector decision-makers and technologists from over 20 Malaysian government agencies, such as attendees from MIDA, MAMPU, MDEC, CSM, etc.
GovInsider has presented a welcoming remark. YBM Fahmi Fadzil, Minister of Communication and Digital, has given the first keynote and launched the event. In his speech, he mentions how Malaysia’s Innovation will bring digitalization to government service. However, the focus areas are internet connectivity and secure data/cybersecurity. For now, the expectation of solving the connectivity issue is in June.
List of speakers as below:
The first discussion, titled “How the Public Sector can Inspire Innovation”, covers the importance of digital technology to the industries and public sectors. Nowadays, everything has been digitalized, and it has impacted the way people do things. By taking advantage of the technology enhancement and automizing the data processing, work can be done in a split second, thus improving time efficiency. In this session, the panel shares the impact of Innovation on the country. The impact on Innovation will get from merging business and technology. The first huge/larger area of Innovation will be the government itself. There for, the critical point is that Innovation should have a leader to make Innovation smooth. The involvement of the public sector and citizens must also be considered to make the Innovation successful.
There are questions from the audience on the topic.
Session 2.
Some government services have been digitalized, such as online tax services, e-wallets, digital licenses, etc. There are numerous examples of how digitalization has impacted the way of life, such as E-commerce, where online business is seen booming, thus leading to countless new business models. Public sectors can be seen trying to evolve by providing services online, increasing service efficiency from hours to minutes. Other examples given include emerging technologies such as IOT, AI and Sensors, which help in decision-making and improve productivity.
Session 3.
Session three discussed Securing a network for a safer nation. To cater for data security, the Government also developed a Cybersecurity policy on risk, NACSA, and NC4 to respond to cyber incidents and established an awareness program and NITA (National IT agenda).
Overall, GovInsider events provide a platform for public sector professionals to learn from each other, exchange best practices and collaborate on solutions to some of the most pressing challenges facing governments today. Aside from that, it will give us a new experience to be confident, especially when building networking with other participants from various sectors. The next event organized by GovInsider is GovInsider Live – ASEAN (Digital and Singapore), which will be held in Singapore from 9-11 May, 2023.
